BOURBON AND RYE
“THE” OLD FASHIONED
Both Cocktail revivalists and preservationists we follow the traditional recipe; Sugar Cube, Bitters, Muddled and topped with Bourbon/Rye and a citrus peel. Ask your server about our selection.
Perhaps the oldest American cocktail, the Sazerac is a true classic and a must try for any cocktail enthusiast. A bold combination of Rye Whiskey, VS Cognac, Peychaud’s bitters, served with Chef Jim’s (CJ) brandied cherry and flamed lemon peel in an absinthe coated glass.
Another classic who’s recipe mirrors New York City’s 212 area code. Choose Bourbon or Rye, Antica Sweet Vermouth, bitters, served up with CJ cherry.
The Whiskey enthusiast’s answer to the “Negroni”. A Rich, complex, bittersweet palate prepper composed of Bourbon, Campari, Antica Sweet Vermouth, served with an orange wheel garnish.
For fans of the Moscow Mule, here at City Café we argue that just like in the Cold War, the Americans did it better. We keep the copper mug, fresh lime juice and ginger beer but ditch Vodka for Bourbon. Garnished with mint sprig and lime. Or try the Irish Mule with Jameson.
Chef Jim’s favorite; translating to Old Quarter, the Vieux Carre hails from the French Quarter circa 1930s New Orleans. A shockingly smooth and complex cocktail using Rye, VS Cognac, Antica Sweet Vermouth, Benedictine, Angostura and Peychaud’s bitters, A CJ cherry, and flamed orange peel
One of the sacred trio of chartreuse sour cocktails. Send your taste buds on a bold, bright, botanical ride with this revived classic. Rittenhouse Rye, Green Chartreuse, Luxardo Maraschino liquor, and fresh lemon juice.
CC WHISKEY SOUR
Taste your favorite whiskey like never before. Accentuate all its subtle notes and complexities by using an egg white to bind fresh lemon and lime juice with simple syrup putting the whiskey on display for a smooth full-flavored one man show
A play off the Amaretto Sour. We bring together Disaronno, Knob Creek Bourbon, Fresh Lemon Juice, Simple Syrup, and an Egg White into a frothy, sweet, and dangerously drinkable combination
A Kentucky Derby Classic. A handful of fresh spearmint is spanked and dropped in a copper mug filled with crushed ice and sugar. We then pour Kentucky Bourbon over the ice. Simple yet an incredibly tasty and refreshing way to beat the Yuba City heat
COGNAC AND BRANDY
A French yet uniquely American cocktail was made popular by the Ex-Pats living in France during the Great Depression. Hennessy VSOP, Combier Orange Liquor, fresh lemon juice.
Named after the popular street in Paris where the Tour De France concludes, we combine Remy Martin VSOP, Green Chartreuse, fresh lemon juice, and Angostura bitters in this bold tribute to victory.
BLOOD AND SAND
This cocktail has become more popular than the 1920s Bullfighting movie for which is was named. We take equal parts Johnny Walker Black Label, Cherry Heering Liquor, Antica Sweet Vermouth, and fresh squeezed orange juice.
Scottish Outlaw or Folk Hero? This play off the Manhattan substitutes a Dimple Pinch 15yr blended Scotch instead of Bourbon; served with a CJ Cherry.
A modern classic from New York. Both Smoky and Spicy, we prescribe Johnny Walker Black Label, house ginger syrup, honey syrup, and fresh lemon juice. We shake and strain over ice then float a peaty Lagavulin 16yr single malt on top. The cure for the monotony of Scotch drinking.
Named after a French canon during World War I, Beefeater Gin, fresh lemon juice, Simple Syrup and Brut champagne. Served in a champagne flute with a powdered sugar float and a lemon twist. (Try the original recipe which substitutes cognac)
In the debate over the greatest Gin cocktails, this century old Detroit classic will most certainly finish the argument for many. Bright and Floral this cocktail; An assertive Old Raj Gin, Green Chartreuse, Luxardo Maraschino Liquor, and fresh lime juice…and that’s that!
For a classic that boasts a certain Je ne se quoi, we take Bombay Dry Gin, Luxardo Maraschino Liquor, fresh lemon juice, and the secret ingredient Crème De Violet, and garnish with a CJ Cherry. You’ll love the flight this beautifully colored cocktail takes you on.
A favorite of the late Anthony Bourdain. This classic Italian aperitif has a nose which hits sweet herbal and citrusy, but not for the faint of palate; Bombay Sapphire, Campari, Antica Vermouth, and an orange garnish.
CORPSE REVIVER #2
Developed at the American Bar at the historic Savoy Hotel in London this prohibition era classic is a potent mix of Old Raj Gin, Lillet Blanc, Combier orange liquor fresh lemon juice shaken and strained into an absinthe rinsed glass. Wake the dead or cure a hangover? either way enjoy
Born during the 1950s in LA this incredibly refreshing cocktail single handedly brought vodka to prominence in the US. Served in a copper mug, we combine Russian Standard Gold Vodka, fresh lime juice, and Cock n Bull ginger beer. Garnished with a sprig of mint and a lime.
SPARKLING PEAR LINEN
An offshoot of the White Linen, this cocktail targets the Gin skeptics. Grey Goose La Poire Vodka, St Germain Elderflower liquor, Muddled cucumbers, fresh lemon juice, muddle cucumbers, and Brut Champagne.
Looking to beat the heat but hate the sweet? Will’s original recipe calls for Absolut Vanilla vodka, lavender simple syrup, Peychaud’s bitters, muddled strawberries, cucumber, and mint and club soda. Refreshment is waiting.
Named after the Texas wildflower, this tasty drink is just as pretty. Ketel One Grapefruit and Rose botanical vodka, Peychaud’s bitters, Rosemary simple syrup, fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, and fresh lime juice. Garnished with a sprig of Rosemary.
This refreshingly perky cocktail is the perfect for Yuba City in the summer Grey Goose Vodka, St. Germain Elderflower Liquor, Chambord, cranberry juice, and Brut Champagne. Served in a flute with a lemon twist.
DARK N STORMY
This offshoot of the Moscow mule ditches vodka for Gosling Black Seal rum, we add in fresh lime juice and top with ginger beer
Inspired by the Nobel prize winning author, we ditch the sugar syrup and take Bacardi silver rum, Luxardo maraschino liquor, fresh grapefruit juice, fresh lime juice to produce all day refreshment in a glass.
Start with Bacardi Silver rum, and in simple syrup fresh pureed Watermelon, muddled Mint, Club Soda, and float Midori and top.
This City Café original calls for Patron Silver, Chef Dan’s pineapple-jalapeno aqua fresca, Aztec Chocolate bitters, fresh lime juice, and Cilantro to produce a potent blend of deliciousness. You’ll never see margaritas the same after trying this tasty drink
Smoky, bright and floral we take Monte Alban Mezcal, house lavender simple syrup, fresh grapefruit juice, and club soda.
